In The Crease Vol #7

Ok everyone…I'M BACK, the surgery was successful although I will have to go back for another :o(. I guess I need to do some more skating for rehab and ice the knee down with a cold beer. (Doctors orders).
Well this week I want to start off with a profile, but different than you're used to seeing. Andrew McCartney, our very own Skate Shop Manager at the JSBIA, is more than a retail specialist. Drew, as everyone calls him, comes from a vast background in the ice rink business. Drew comes from out west where he has worked since the age of 15 somewhere in an ice rink. Not only did Drew play hockey as a youth he took on the idea that rink operations and ice facilitation is what he wanted to do as a career. He is a CIT or (Certified Ice Technician) and also has a 5 STAR Certification. Only a few people around the world have this certification. It's the highest level of certification STAR offers. STAR stands for Serving The American Rinks. They were created in 1999 as a joint venture of USA Hockey and US Figure Skating to educate people in the ice arena business. It was their goal to get all ice arenas operating efficiently and at their highest possible level. Drew has been apart of STAR since the beginning. Drew was the equipment manager for Colorado College for a season. He has done ice for 4 NHL teams, Olympic Figure Skating, Olympic hockey, Olympic Short Track Speed skating, Division I college hockey, WCHL (including an All-Star game), youth-adult hockey, figure skating, and curling. All this capped off with ability to sharpen your skates, I'd say you better head directly to the JSBIA Skate Shop for all your equipment needs. Or e-mail Drew at: andrew.mccartney@jsbia.com you may also find the Skate Shop hours of operation on our web page www.jsbia.com .
DON'T FORGET TO HAVE YOUR EQUIPMENT NEEDS TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE THE SUMMER SIZZLE ADULT HOCKEY TOURNMANET. SEE WWW.JSBIA.COM FOR DETAILS.
In arena information updates, the Summer Sizzle is off to a good start. Many returning teams from the 2006 April Labatt Spring Fling. Same as last tournament we will have an A, B, and C open divisions. Anyone interested in placing a team in the tournament needs to talk to me ASAP! We have room however; teams are quickly taking open slots. sfadale@netsync.net you can e-mail me or (716) 484-2624 Ext. 217
See you out on the ice!
