In The Crease Vol #8
By: Shaun V. Fadale
It's tournament time once again here at the JSBIA!!! I've been getting things ready to dive into our 1 st annual Labatt Summer Sizzle Adult Ice Hockey Tournament. Any readers that have played in tourneys remember the anxiety and excitement that brews right before you take the ice. The whole idea that you only have 3 games to earn enough points to make it to the finals…it's exhausting. Then if you're lucky enough to make it you have to play the team that has completed the same task of earning enough points, meeting you on Sunday for the ultimate battle. Sometime after you may or may not take the gold. This is what hockey is all about! At this Labatt Summer Sizzle all the players involved are blessed beyond words. Lets look at the set up: First off, the double rink facility is located directly downtown Jamestown right in the middle of all the action. We have bars and food establishments in walking distance from the arena. Hotels are so close you can roll to your room after a hard night of partying. Parking for guests is usually no problem at all. And best of all the participants are always so happy to play at the JSBIA because we understand what hockey tournaments are supposed to be… COMPETITION, FUN , and BEER.
This tourney will have 3 divisions: Open A ( 4 teams total) Open B (4 teams total) and Open C (6 teams total). Again Labatt will be sponsoring the event. We will be having a party in the rink starting at 10:30pm Saturday night in the Veranda Room (upstairs). Remember the rink now has a bar within and will be serving throughout the tournament. Besides the first place trophies given to winning teams, I will be awarding a “Beer Cup” champion to the team that parties the hardest!! Keep in mind, I don't want teams becoming abusive to win this. If anyone takes this challenge in the wrong direction they will not be invited back. Please use your head, but have a grand ol' time (yes that includes you Perry, Kirk, and Mike N.)
Player profile this week is again a little different than you're used to seeing. With this individual I'm committed to getting out on the ice at least once this season. His name is Tom Faber and he is the interim General Manager for the JSBIA. Tom has admitted to skating one time and not enjoying it the way he should. Tom is a huge fan of hockey events at the JSBIA and has offered to assist me in bring more hockey to arena in the near future. I want to keep everyone updated on his hockey playing status, and I will be on him to lace up the blades. Please if you see Tom during the Labatt Summer Sizzle Aug. 11-13, give him some encouragement to get out on the ice. He will be more than grateful! Thanks again for reading. Remember any questions can be e-mailed to me at: sfadale@netsync.net or check the web site www.jsbia.com
See you out on the ice!
