from Cool Walk walkers
*******
Lillian
& Suszanne having been walking the Cool Walk since the arena
opened. They find the new track nice and comfortable. When there
are activities they enjoy the entertainment. They say the arena
is clean and they find the workers very pleasant. They walk
5 days a week, bright and early in the morning, approx 2 miles.
********
Betsy walks 3-5 times
a week and has been walking here for the past 2 years. She likes
that there are no cars to deal with and it's cool. .
**********
While one
of the busiest grant writer's in the county, Tom F. takes the
time to attend to his health by walking the Cool Walk. "Remember,
eight times around equals a mile!", says Tom. "It's
a great way to keep track of your distances!"

The
Cool Walk Around the Rink
Currently
the area around the outside of Rink A is used by many
health conscious Jamestown area residents as a walking
track. Groups and individuals, including the Chautauqua
Striders, take advantage of the existing walkway as
a great place to exercise. Whatever the weather outside
it’s always a cool place to walk in the JSBIA!
-
Great place to meet fellow walkers
- Exercise
while the kids take lessons
- Opportunity
to watch skaters
- Complete
your mile workout in eight laps
- Stay
cool while walking
This
is the beginning of a health and wellness program that
focuses on downtown Jamestown, making it a more appealing
place to work, play and live! |

Rules
of the “road”
- Like
driving motor vehicles on the highway, walk to the right,
pass on the left. Slower folks keep to the right. On some
busy winter days we get as many as 250 plus walkers.
-
Running or jogging is not prohibited but we ask those folks
to be really considerate of slower walkers.
-
Please be aware that occasionally there area events in the
Arena that may require us to close the walking track for
the day. We will post notice of these closures on our website
and in the Arena prior to the event. Unfortunately, due
to the increasing popularity of the Arena, advanced notice
is not always possible.
- PLEASE
SIGN IN! Your first name or initials are OK. Having
an accurate count of walkers is very helpful in our grant
writing and fundraising efforts.

Our
ice arena is open about 360 days a year.
Use
of the “Cool
Walk” track is open to the public with out charge
when the building is open except for events that require
a paid admission charge.
Walkers
are welcome from 8 AM until closing each day. The
closing time varies by season. Early April, we take
the ice off of Rink A usually the area where the “Cool
Walk” is located. At this point, depending on activity
the ice arena will close earlier in the evening.
Believe
it or not, there is no heating or air conditioning
in either of the rinks. The inside temperature is
controlled by the outside temperature and the ice
temperature on the ice floor. There are large dehumidification
units in the ceiling of both rinks that provide some
climate control. This means the temperature around
the Cool Walk can very from hour to hour, day to day
and season to season. Please bring a sweater or jacket.
Lockers are provided for your convenience
MUSIC:
There is no way to please everyone! We routinely receive
comments that the music is too loud, too low, to fast,
or too slow. If this is a concern, we suggest you
bring a portable music player (walkman or CD player)
with ear plugs to listen to you favorite music.
Our
“Skate Shop” sells more than skates and we hope to
increase hours of operation of the snack bar and set
up a more relaxed café for walkers. Check us out.
Your support of these helps make the events and building
activities affordable to all.
Donations,
gifts and volunteers are most welcome. Please see
the “Support the Ice Arena”
section.
Comments,
ideas and suggestions are most welcome – forms are
provided both at the sign in table and the main reception
desk. Thank you!
